WOW! That’s awful! My water line to the ice maker is internal. Which is why I couldn’t just use a hair dryer to thaw it out (thanks YouTube for that options as well!) I made sure to drain what I could of the line when I thawed it out. The problem hasn’t recurred as I make sure I drain out all the water in the fridge & shut off the ice maker whenever I go to see my grandkids. I also lower the temp in the freezer a bit.
Thankfully, my fridge is on the first floor & my townhouse is on a slab. So even in worst case scenario — the damage would have been manageable AND immediately visible. Because I’m in a townhouse with walls on both sides attached to others and I have a washer on the second floor and hardwood floors — I made sure I had adequate water damage insurance.
It’s been over six months now, without a leak. So I think I might have gotten lucky and the line didn’t have any damage to it.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I am now even more happy when the ice cubes hit the bin because I know that old adage — Things could have been so much worse!!!
Have a wonderful day! :)
