The Twelve Days Of Christmas — #12

Here we are — on the last day of Christmas. Santa comes tonight. And I’m betting if there are any small Humans in your house — the excitement is palatable.

Christmas Eve has always been my very favorite day of the year. All. The. Things. are done. It is the official beginning of Christmas.

In our family, a long tradition is to open a present (or two!) on Christmas Eve. There are always new pajamas to wear. The children’s advent calendars are completed.

They know tonight is The Big Night. Cookies chosen with care, accompanied by milk and carrots are set out just so. Anxious little brains are settled for their long winter’s nap with stories — or perhaps a Christmas movie and some cocoa.

Those of us who have had Christmases without the added joy children bring to the celebration can attest — it’s just not the same without the kids.

We make Christmas for our children.

And then — the most potent Christmas Magik — shines back at us from their hearts. We see it reflected in their eyes. We hear it in the sound of their laughter. We are surrounded by it as we share their joy.

Our children make Christmas for us.

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Joyous Kwanzaa! Blessed Solstice! And to all a good night!
