I’ve noticed a tendency in myself and my friends — we go around with our inner narrative playing full blast telling ourselves all the things we are, and perhaps all the things we are not.
Invariably it is set to as negative a tone as we can tolerate and still remain upright and functional. Or sometimes it slips past that and becomes worse. We listen too hard to all the harsh voices which have ever spoken to us in our lives. They sit there in our minds just waiting for us to push the play button so they can be heard again — and again.
Enter in the positive affirmation movement.
For me it began with a movie — The Help — and one woman telling a small girl every day that she was kind, smart, and important. Wowza — what if we told our kids that? What if we told each other that? What if we told ourselves that? How many lives could we change?
So what are you waiting for?
You are kind. You are smart. You are important.
