The two oldest Magical Creatures had birthdays this month. It seems the last decade of My Life and the first decade of theirs has gone by at warp speed.
But I digress.
We celebrated. And then a few days later we celebrated again. Because Their birthdays arrive within the same seven-day period every year. Needless to say, my daughter has her hands full trying to make each child feel special, loved, and cherished on their special day. I can only watch with awe as my daughter and son-in-law devote themselves to this task. My own daughters were born in spring and fall. Even separated by six months— it seemed like I was always planning someone’s birthday. To do two within a week is completely mad-badass-parenting skills.
I’m not sure if many of you remember your birthdays from your childhood. My birthday is the week before Christmas and I lived in northeast PA. I got used to a lot of no-shows for my birthday parties because Mother Nature intervened. Or sometimes my friends’ families had Christmas celebrations/get-togethers planned that weekend before The Big Day. I learned to regard my birthday with realistic expectations for disappointment early on.
And so it is with The Magical Creatures. Invariably, some one thing will go sideways — not quite as planned. This year…
