The MDs pagers would all go off during surgery letting them know they needed to start discharging appropriate patients ASAP because between surgeries, transfers from community hospitals, & the ED there was a critical bed situation. If you add COVID ICU patients into that mix - well - those surgeries will get canceled. The ER will stay full. And patients will die in underserved community hospitals waiting on a bed at a trauma center. Just be very careful driving, of your diet, of All. The. Things - that might cause you or yours to need a bed for some other reason besides COVID. Because there aren't any.
