That made me laugh! My Dear Father Murphy was the same. My husband & I had eloped a couple years prior to starting our family. Civil ceremony in the JP’s living room. I decided I wanted to baptize the baby — because as you know — it’s just easier to start out life In The Church than to try to join later. Give the kid the in — she could decide later if she kept it. So — we went to Father Murphy for a one on one ‘pre-canna’ class having been already married for a couple years. But to get the kiddo baptised- The Church wanted the parents really married. Not just civil married. He sat behind his desk in the rectory — smoking his pipe — glass of scotch next to his hand. He then says -looking straight at my husband- “So — here’s what I tell all my couples — there will be times in the marriage she is not going to want to have sex. And that is perfectly ok.” He smiles at me and adds, “But I imagine by now you two have probably already figured that out. — So…what date are we thinking for the ceremony?”
