Thank you for your insights. And please — call me Ann.

You make so many excellent points about Humanity as individuals who suffer from their own traumatic experiences. I love this quote — it’s origin seems to be a Tweet from Damian Barr:

“I heard that we are in the same boat. But it’s not that. We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Your ship can be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa …”

Humans forget — we are not all traveling through life on the same boat. Some only have life jackets. Old ones. With moth eaten holes in them.

Those just barely keeping their heads above water wonder why the people on the yachts are bitching? Why are they so cruel? Actually, those of us in fairly stable Boston Whalers wonder the same thing.

I loved my therapist. For over seven years, I sat on his couch as he asked me the hard questions and waited for me to find my answers. I was even harder on myself back in those days. It is my firm belief that we all need a good therapist in our lives. I still check in with him now & again for tune-ups. I don’t know what My Life would look like if I hadn’t taken the step and made that first appointment.

I blame society for the way we raise our sons. No one gave them the tools they needed to become self-aware. (See there I go again — giving the benefit of the doubt & finding an excuse). I’ve watched my sons-in-law struggle with this inability to be vulnerable.

I’ll end with one final quote to share from Brene Brown — the Queen of Vulnerbility:

“Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.”

Thank you again for reading for responding with such amazing insights. Many blessings!
