Society makes it harder — by the expectation we stay ‘connected’. Technology is just a tool. With an off button.
I don’t watch the news. I don’t have cable. I chose what comes into my sphere. I CURATE my life. I shut down and go to yoga and meditate because those are my priorities.
I spend time outdoors — while I still have an outdoors to appreciate. With my phone on silence.
My ex-husband taught me a wonderful lesson about technology. He was an IT guy. He would carry his phone but it would always be OFF. Me & the kids could never reach him. Because HIS phone existed for HIS convenience. No one else’s. If HE needed to make a call — then he would turn it on.
It drove me crazy to be honest. But now — now I completely see the brilliance of it.
People I work with are stunned to know I turn my work phone off at 5 every day. And back on at 8. I disconnect.
My daughters — millennials both — do the same. They take family time — they go on vacations — they leave their computers home — they put their phones on charge and walk away.
Life happens when you look up and away from the screen. :)
