So true. I think our experiences as children form so much of our attitudes towards the world. To be fair, kids don’t come with manuals — and the generation that raised us clung to their stoic-ness like poison ivy. My parents — to give them their due — were better at parenting than their parents. I was a bit better at parenting than they were. And in my now — my daughter & son-in-law are incredible parents & have taken it all to a brand new level.
And that legacy is so much better than the generational trauma my parents could have left me or that I could have passed on to my kids. I always told people that the goal of parenting is to give your children different issues to take to their therapist. ❤
