Simple Joys
I have to confess, every time I hear my ice maker drop a tray of cubes into its little bin — my heart does a bit of a happy dance.
You see, it wasn’t so long ago that said ice maker had a frozen line and no water means no ice cubes. The only recourse is to defrost the whole freezer. Turn off the power to the fridge until the freezer comes up to room temperature. Or at least warm enough to melt the ice in the feed line. When I explored my options on YouTube, the best advice said that 48–72 hours should do the trick.
The problem was that my freezer was FULL. I still cook for a family of four and often tuck leftovers in the freezer for later. Think of it as a homemade version of TV dinners. Lots and lots of TV dinners.
Luckily Mother Nature helped me along. In the dead of the winter in January, we had an extreme cold snap. Temperatures outside, even in the afternoons, were not going to get above freezing. I transferred all my frozen goods from the freezer and all the keep cold goods from the fridge to the trunk of my car in various coolers/boxes/containers.
I flipped the breaker to the fridge and I waited.
