She was an amazing cook. My cousin Jerry — one of her grandsons — has her chicken and biscuit recipe. We are STILL trying to figure out that sugar cookie recipe though. She never used measuring cups — just her hands to measure flour and sugar.

When the family got together — she would make home made ice cream. Banana, strawberry, peach — whatever fruit was in season. Hand churned. The younger kids churned it when it was still thin and the ‘big’ boys had their turn when it was nearly ‘done’. Every. Single. Cousin. in my family loves ice cream — because this was what we did. Together. It was more than food — desert. It was ritual. It was Love.
