As I was scrolling through FB this morning, I came upon The Crow’s Feet Private Group page. Today Nancy Franklin is the moderator and she posed a prompt for me to ponder. Write about a sport/sporting event you loved.
For me — hands down — that’s hockey!
I went to my first hockey game as a teenager in rural NE Pennsylvania. Just across the border in New York — The City (Binghamton) had built an arena and it was home to the farm team of The Hartford Whalers. It was fun, it was fast, and I was hooked.
Fast forward to 1995 and my move to North Carolina. The NHL team The Hartford Whalers had also moved. They were here, in NC. They played in another arena while their arena was being built. And miracle of miracles! It was being built less than five miles from my house! AMAZING!!!
It took a couple of years to get the team moved over to their new digs, but soon NHL hockey was being played just down the highway from me. I convinced my husband that it was in his best interest to come with me to the games. He initially hesitated because he never really was a team sport kinda guy. Fishing and tennis were his sports of choice, however, he loved me and humored me when my extrovert wanted to go out and play.
