Ruby - I think these 4 words are the most important advice in this whole piece. I, too, retired with a state pension from my nursing career - I was 60 at the time- just shy of my 61st birthday. But for years prior to retiring I had lived well below my means. By the time I retired the only debt I carried was my mortgage. I decided to take my SS at 62 - simply because I feel it all comes out even in the end. In the face of a pandemic - I want to enjoy my Now as tomorrow is never guaranteed. But as a former nurse - the most important thing for me was to never have to return to nursing. Not even part-time. The pandemic made my very difficult career unbearable. I'm sure many teachers feel the same way. Thank you for sharing your wisdom & lessons learned the hard way. I really enjoy your writing. Many blessings!
