Of Lost Dreams & Sea Turtles

This summer the beach house my family and I stayed at sat between two sea turtle nests. Both nests were due to hatch any day and there were volunteers there each night playing mid-wife to the potential hatches.
My family made the hike down the beach to both nests — granddaughters in tow — and chatted with the very knowledgable volunteers about All. The. Things. Sea Turtle.
While we were there one nest did hatch in the wee small hours of the morning and we let out a cheer of hope and some good mojo for all the babies to grow and flourish.
My daughter, granddaughters, and son-in-law also visited the local Sea Turtle Hospital. Feel free to check out the link, it’s a very cool place.
As I sat with my daughter the evening after the visit to said Sea Turtle Hospital, we stepped into The Wayback Machine for a spell. You see, one of her dreams had been to be a Marine Biologist. Even into college — she had taken coursework which left this option open for her until at last, she had to make the hard call.
And like so many of us do — she chose duty over dreams. And she did what needed to be done to build a Life. A wonderful Life — but she set her dream of becoming a Marine Biologist gently down.
I listened to my daughter revisit her dream in this chat. I heard it again in her voice — The Thing — inside us, catches us, touches us, calls to us. Even when we think we might have put it aside — or chosen a different path — or walked away from it completely. It remains. Our Dream. The Road Not Chosen.
Even if we love Our Life — even if we would not trade Our Now for a re-do. Our Dream remains there — a reminder of who we once were — before we became the Human we are now.
Everyone has a Lost Dream.
On this particular evening, I heard my amazing child share her love of sea creatures with her amazing children and I knew — Our Dreams are never really gone. They stay with us always. The Magic they add to our Soul is available to us anytime, anywhere. All we have to do to tap into it is share them.
The thing about these pieces of ourselves isn’t so much we need the Dreams to come true — we need the Dreams to remind us of who we are at our core.
Listen to your heart. Remember Your Dream. Share it with someone you Love.
Watch for The Magic.
Try to remember who you were — before The World told you who you should be.
Namaste.
