New Moon

August 30 marked this month’s New Moon.

For those of us who pay attention to such things — The New Moon is The Beginning. We bring out our intentions. We burn incense. We smudge altars and homes. We plant ‘seeds’ of all we wish to ‘grow’. We open ourselves up to The Knowing. We turn inward to The Darkness.

We wait.

In the days which follow we come back to the light as The Moon herself starts to again reveal herself. But we carry with us the experience of The Dark Time when we sat with our intentions. We will watch for the signs of ‘growth’ of the ‘seeds’ we planted as the days of the month march forward and The Moon grows larger.

I began to watch The Moon when I was still young. The night sky always fascinated me. As a young woman — I would know when my cycle was about to arrive by watching The Moon. Later, as a nurse, I could count on the chaos a Full Moon would bring to my shift every month.

EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH.

Our bodies are made of 55–60% water. If The Moon can pull the ocean and form tides — of course, she can also affect the cells of water which inhabit Humans. Why would we be exempt from her forces?

Humans love to pretend we are above the Natural World — that somehow we control and rule The Earth. I laugh as I even type this sentence. We are OF The Earth as much as…
