My daughter had a liver transplant at age 12. I have worked as a transplant OR nurse & transplant coordinator. This is actually — sadly — not uncommon. Transplants are not guaranteed. For anyone. It is heartbreaking.

The cruelty of the individual Motel 6 staff remains at the heart of this story as well. Because surely managers have some kind of leeway in decisions of this nature. I have checked out late in hotels — perhaps because they have not been Motel 6s — and not even been charged a surcharge.

Thank you for sharing Megan’s story. The cost of healthcare in this country drives more people to bankruptcy than anywhere in the first world. And that doesn’t include the human toll that you wrote so profoundly about. ❤
