Magical Creature Lessons: #9

Be a team player

All three Magical Creatures have started playing spring sports through various programs in their community. The oldest and youngest are playing soccer. The middle one has taken up Lacrosse.

They have begun their practices and are loving being on a team with other kids. The first games happened this weekend. I’m stuck in North Carolina for a few more weeks before I can go and watch them practice and play.

I can hardly wait.

I wasn’t much of a team player back in the day. My entire sports career in school involved being on the archery team. I suppose you could say that riding horses in shows was a team sport though. The ‘team’ consisted of me and the equine who responded so beautifully to my commands.

I didn’t really learn how to be on a team until decades later when I became an OR nurse at age forty. In those operating rooms, I learned just how precious your team is. I learned how to watch someone else’s back. I learned how to share the glory and I learned how to stand united against the shit storms. I learned how to win and I learned how to lose.

And all of those lessons came with Grace.

Ironically, it was right around that time in My Life — when I was on a team — that I finally felt like my skin fit. I wasn’t out of sync with the Humans around me any longer. And although it was late in arriving — I felt like I belonged somewhere.

Those are the gifts of being on a team. Learning all the lessons of Grace sooner rather than later. Finding The Humans who see you just as you are and accept you. Flowing in sync with other beings for a common goal.

Belonging Somewhere.

Namaste.
