Pay attention!

Our attention is the greatest gift we can bestow on another Human. To be fully engaged with them — to be present with them. And no one thrives under the attention of the adults in their world more than our kids.

Last week I visited The Magical Creatures and we had a wonderful time. As soon as I arrived, I wandered over to their pool to watch them in a swim clinic given by their most senior swim coach. He knew each child and personally instructed and encouraged them. It was plainly clear that he was engaged and loving what he was doing. The kids under his care paid rapt attention. The environment was light and fun, and they learned.

The next day, Friday, The Oldest Magical Creature and I spent a few hours of one-on-one time together. We went to the grocery store together — she is now tall enough to ride in the passenger seat! (When did THAT happen???) We hung out together and chilled. We talked and worked on a puzzle. I taught her how to make black beans in the microwave and various other low-key pursuits.

On Saturday, The Middle Magical Creature and I went fabric shopping for a skirt she wants me to make for her. The pattern also has a matching American Girl Doll skirt — which will also be sewn. We took our time and wandered around the fabric store eventually finding All. The. Things. in just…
