Magical Creature Lessons: #21
This month when I visited The Magical Creatures it was for a very special event. The Oldest Magical Creature was graduating from 5th grade. She is turning into such a lovely Human. She is kind and generous. She is curious and smart. She is talented and strong. All. The. Things. we hope our daughters and granddaughters will be.
And she is growing up.
I was able to attend her graduation ceremony in a gymnasium packed with other students’ families. We watched with pride as she received an award for being a lovely Human. I think it was soon after I watched the presentation of this award that the tears started. First it seemed, I just had watery eyes. Then I felt one or two escape down my cheeks. I felt a lightness in my chest as my heart opened to the emotions I was feeling.
Then the entire 5th grade sang us a song. Young voices lifted in happiness and something else. Perhaps for the first times in their lives — they were experiencing a milestone. A place where you put a pin in your memories and choose a path forward to the rest of your life.
Each class was called to the stage to collect their diplomas. And then, a photo montage was played. From kindergarten to 5th grade — smiling faces of both students and teachers appeared on the screen. Names…
