The Greatest Gifts

I know we often think of gifts as something we buy at a store or shop for on Amazon. But my lesson on my latest visit with The Magical Creatures reminded me that the greatest gifts we give each other are pieces of ourselves.

The parents of The Magical Creatures have an innate knowledge of this. I cannot tell you how immensely proud I am of those two Humans. Not only did they give me the gift of my granddaughters — but they are complete rock stars as parents.

While I was visiting, the finishing touches were put on The Middle Magical Creature’s renovated bedroom. Daddy had repainted her previously little girl room of undersea magic to a more sedate teenager color scheme. He also built her a loft bed. Mommy helped decorate and place posters and wall decals as her room was transformed from a mermaid haven to an astrological wonderland. The expense wasn’t a lot, but everyone put in the time and paid the attention that was necessary to make her vision a reality.

The next lesson came when The Oldest Magical Creature was able to upgrade her sea monkeys (AKA brine shrimp) to a beta fish. According to the package, her sea monkeys were only supposed to live a few days after hatching. Three months later, she still had a few left.
