I live in North Carolina where a snowstorm is a rare and frightening event. While things have gotten better in the over twenty-five years I’ve lived here, most everything in North Carolina was not built to withstand snow and/or sub-zero temperatures.
When “Izzy” was coming to town, I started getting emails from All. The. Things. days before she hit. My power company, my wi-fi company, my gas company, my town, my community center — even my grocery store wanted to make sure I knew how to prepare for possible shortages and outages. Because losing your power in a snowstorm is an entirely different animal than losing your power in September from a hurricane. Hurricanes hardly raise an eyebrow around here.
Enter The Magical Creatures.
Do you remember when we approached storms with wonder and awe? Do you remember watching the snowfall and being swept up in the beauty of each and every individual flake? Do you remember the joy of a “Snow Day”?
My daughter sent me videos of The Magical Creatures this week. Their neighborhood got plenty of snow (even before Izzy hit) and it was perfect sledding weather. Giggles and shrieks filled the air. Friends gathered at a nearby park — the one with The Hill that was obviously built just for sleds.
