It is. And it is present in All. The. Humans. And as I said - it lies like a rug. The trick is to recognize Ego's voice and differentiate it from intuition. It takes a lot of self reflection that most Humans don't bother with to be able to do that.

Most of the time Humans aren't even aware they are Ego-driven and can give you a long list of reasons for their behaviors, actions, beliefs - and Ego will not be on it. Anywhere. Because a vast majority of Humans never grow past the emotional & psychological stage of a two-year-old. Who is completely ego-centric.
