In the early days of my divorce, I had a favorite Italian place. I would go in & sit at the bar to eat. At the very least, the bartenders knew me & would socialize a bit as appropriate. Mostly, I'd find other single souls sitting around me also in need of some company. Eventually, I got better at sitting at a table & enjoying the food in my own company. But it was a process. These days, since retirement, I find I enjoy cooking in a way I never did before. I still cook the same recipes as I did for my family of four back in the day. Only now, I have leftovers to feed me through the week, or to tuck in the freezer for the days I'm not in the mood for anything I happen to have in the fridge or cupboard. I'm a much better cook than my Italian mother ever was. Perhaps that helps the whole situation. But in the end, a table for one can be quite nice. <3
