I’m not sure where we morphed from imagination to needing to digest it all in reality. There is a far cry from a horror movie to the fascination of walking into that same movie theater with an AK and doing an imitation of a modern day Kamikaze.
Although — empaths can’t tolerate horror movies either. Or violent video games. Even video games with high sensory input are pretty awful. They need their quiet time to download everyone else’s crap they’ve absorbed.
No one ever watched reality TV in my house — I lived that shit. I think the kids had “Life & Death in ER” or something like that turned on once & I walked in — I said — “Oh — look at that. You know? I know what that smells like.” They and their friends just looked at me & changed the channel. Not a teenager there had taken into account that Trauma had a smell.
I dealt with Pain professionally. It’s taken all of My Life to sort it out and not drag it into my personal life.
