I was in nursing school when she was transplanted. I eventually became a surgical ICU nurse — then recovery room nurse and then OR nurse. My team was solid organ transplants for many years. I was the team lead. I then became a kidney transplant coordinator before returning to the OR as an oncology nurse. I’m now an oncology nurse navigator. Nursing is a career that lets you be many things — all for the same institution. 😊
My time in transplant let me give back to the families facing the same challenges we faced. It was an incredible blessing.
