I was a pre-op nurse after I left the ICU. However, our sister unit was PACU & since I had ICU experience, I would often float to PACU in the afternoons when the ORs were starting to empty out. I could take care of any ICU boarders that might be hanging about waiting on a bed. I found I loved working with anesthesia & that experience helped form my decision to go into the OR. Some of my best FB buddies are PACU nurses I worked with over the years. After years in the ICU with chronically sick patients - it was such a relief to take care of patients who went some place else. Either to be admitted or to be discharged to home. I'm sure you understand completely what I'm talking about. :) It was the same in the OR - the cases finished, we went home, we did it all again the next day.
Thank you for your lovely response, I adored my PACU colleagues - still do. <3
