I used to be a kidney transplant coordinator for a major trauma center. A few things: patients who are on dialysis qualify for Medicare. No matter their age. When it comes time that he is through the transplant evaluation - his wait time on the list starts from when he started dialysis. Not when he got through the eval & put on the list.

I retired a few years back & things might have changed. But be sure to speak to a transplant center & his dialysis center social worker. Especially about getting put on Medicare. By being on Medicare - the transplant process has less financial bumps in it.
