I use one healthcare system & all my MDs are on the same Epic portal. I worked at that facility for over 26 years & I have to say - simply making the MDs enter their scripts electronically instead of having to decipher illegible handwriting has probably done more to save patients lives than any other update to our healthcare system that I can recall.

I'm a huge fan of patient portals - as you can guess. Because I have a life & I'd rather text an MD through a portal than sit around waiting on a call back. However, I agree that there needs to be options for folks who don't have internet access, computers, or who have disabilities that make using a portal impossible. Not just for seniors - but for all patients. Excellent article about the flip side of this innovation.
