I think I still have to go with Carole’s version. I simply love her voice. Rod’s version was fine — but after all these years of hearing hers — his seemed slightly ‘wrong’ to my ears. Plus maybe because I’m a woman singing to my man — the way I’ve always felt about that song — it needs a feminine voice to me. As far as You’ve Got A Friend — the same thing happens when James Taylor — who BTW grew up in Chapel Hill NC (just down the road) — I hear Carole’s voice and when James sings it..it’s ok. But really — it just sounds more ‘right’ the way my ears have been programmed LO these many ‘repeats’ of that CD in my car. LOL
