I play the piano. I've always had a piano in my home & took lessons (that I HATED) as a child. I have very little sense of timing, but can read music. For me - it's mechanical at best. My ex was also a gifted musician who once told me, "Don't sing to the children - they'll think it's supposed to sound that way." So yes, I understand the undermining of confidence very well. I still play - alone or just Christmas carols for my kids/The Magical Creatures. One day, though, that piano will belong to one of them. And I hope it makes them blissfully happy to make music - no matter what their confidence or talent levels are.
