I live in the south. Once when on a tour of Charleston — the lady tour guide pointed out oleander. It grows like a weed down here. Beautiful flowers in all different colors. Almost every garden has some. She said at the turn of the 20th century however, Charleston had a nearly non-existent divorce rate. Low even for that era. However it had one of the highest death by heart attack statistics in the nation. Apparently there was a fair bit of widowhood by oleander tea taking place that polite ladies didn’t discuss — only amongst themselves when it was necessary to share a recipe to a fellow suffering sister. ;) I always took the time to point out an oleander bush to my ex-husband after that. Just so he knew I had paid attention to the real lesson of that tour. HAHAHAHA!
