I have made a compromise in my life. I wash dishes, cups, silverware in my dishwasher — mostly because they are sanitized in there. I got in the habit of doing that ages ago when I had an immuno-compromised kiddo living in the house after her liver transplant. It was the safest thing. And now I still do because with my asthma — if I get a cold — it turns into bronchitis and I’m up the creek. But I always wash my pots and when I bake I’ll put a sinkful of bubbly sudsy water in the sink to wash the cooking utensils. It is a meditative process — much like chopping wood and carrying water. Very Zen.
