I Get To Celebrate

It’s not the same as gloating

Per Dictionary.com:

Celebrate: to acknowledge (a significant or happy day or event) with a social gathering or enjoyable activity.

Gloat: to contemplate or dwell on one’s own success or another’s misfortune with smugness or malignant pleasure.

Can you see the difference there? Every single American who voted Blue is celebrating the news that Joe Biden is the presumptive 46th President of the United States. We are celebrating the long overdue appearance of a woman — a woman of color — will be our vice-president.

We are happy. Joy-filled. Relieved — even — for our significant and happy day!

We are allowed to celebrate. We have earned our joy.

And I will not apologize for it.

Not one Human in my world who voted Red ever attempted to make me comfortable about my beliefs when I was with them. In fact, they did just the opposite. They dwelled on the misfortune of others with malignant pleasure.

They called me names— told me to move to Canada — enjoyed marking me as ‘Other’.

Humans I had known for decades of My Life turned on me without a second thought.

To join That Man in his gloating.

They are lucky I’m not out there singing, “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead!” Because that is exactly what today feels like to those of us who voted Blue.

I will NOT stifle My Hard-Won Joy. I will NOT.

And anyone who has an issue with that can kindly — fuck off.

Namaste.
