What does Home mean to you?

For a lot of My Life, Home wasn’t a place — it was the Humans I loved. My father and I moved to a new place right after my mother died. After that, I never felt at home in any physical building until my husband and I bought our first house and moved in. That was Home for over twelve years.

Eventually, we moved to North Carolina, and it was then I realized — we took Home with us. Home was never a building or geographical location for me. Home was the love I shared with the Humans I lived with.

My daughters grew up, moved away, and married. They built Homes of their own with the Humans they love. As they did, I lost my sense of Home for quite some time.

Until I realized that I was worthy of being a Human I loved as well. I could be alone — and still, be Home.

These days when I visit my daughter and The Magical Creatures — I find the same sense of Home echoes throughout. Even alone in my tidy, little townhouse — I feel the deep comfort of Home. And I realize Home has nothing to do with where I am. Home is a feeling you carry with you.

We can make anyplace Home. Even if we live alone, as long as we’re with someone we love.

Namaste.
