Have you ever made anyone else uncomfortable? By your words or your actions?By your appearance? By just being yourself? Or existing?

How about by speaking your truth? By refusing to be silenced? By taking up all the space that you need instead of squeezing yourself down into a size they might feel ‘better’ about?

Have you ever changed your choices or preferences so as not to cause an awkward moment for another person? Have you felt the tightness of social propriety bind you to a path, a lifestyle, a thought process that just didn’t fit?

Have you hidden parts and pieces of yourself from view rather than face judgement? Have you not shared plans, events, opinions rather than engage in debate?

These are some of the ways we let people around us mold us into boxes which fit their comfort zones, but are not ours. They cage us with their notion of decorum.

You can see discomfort written all over someone when you’ve crossed the line and left their zone. Some people hold those lines very rigidly, others can flow in and out of them with pinache. I prefer to have the later kind of souls in my world. People whose comfort zones are vast and who can look at everyone as an individual.

I have just enough of a contrary bent to enjoy tweaking those boundaries and dragging people out of their zones and into my wide open plains. A place where adventure rules. A place where I say ‘yes’ as often as possible. A place where freedom is the theme and joy is the by product.

Namaste.
