I’ve been writing on Medium since 2017. Back then the Partnership Program was simply a gleam in the eye of whoever was CEO at the time.
We wrote for free.
Because writing and sharing our inner landscape was enough. On a personal level, I began writing because I wanted a piece of me to be left behind — for so long as the internet survives. I wanted my kids and The Magical Creatures to have the stories of my life and to understand who I have been — through all the various manifestations of the woman known as Ann Litts.
Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. My birthday is the week before Christmas. My mom’s birthday was Christmas Eve. My oldest niece was born on Christmas day. Oh yes, December was a helluva month at my house when I was growing up.
I carried this sense of wonder and celebration with me throughout all of my life. Even to this day — a 63-year-old woman sits at her kitchen counter excited for the events that will occur over the next couple of weeks. House decorated, tree trimmed, stockings hung, gifts wrapped, and cookies baked — I wait for the arrival of Santa just as surely as I did when I was a child.
