It’s Thursday. I’ve been assigned to OR 3 with one of my favorite scrub techs. It will be a tough day and I’m relieved to have her.
Thursday in my OR is the day our OB/GYN service has block time to schedule D&Es. To the non-medical personnel out there — abortions. Room 3 is their room. I’m their circulating nurse for the duration.
On this Thursday — we have four cases scheduled and a ‘hold’ spot for the end of the day in case one of their partners sees someone in clinic and there is an emergency. …
As a former OR nurse, I just don’t see what the big deal is. I worked 40+ hours a week, in a mask. For most of my nursing career. With asthma.
It’s not like anyone is taking away our guns. Goddess Forbid!
I know for a fact masks work to prevent the transmission of our germs from one being to another. That’s why we wear them in operating rooms. Everywhere. Globally. Because they work.
We wear masks to protect our patients. For many days before any symptoms emerge— we are all carriers. Of anything we might ‘catch’. From the flu…
It’s not about vengeance after all
When I started looking deeper into the philosophies behind my yoga and meditation practice, I learned about Karma. The real and true meaning of the energy.
Karma is defined by Dictonary.com as:
the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. Destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.
Karma can be immediate or take a long time to percolate. However, it is always neutral — just as destiny is neither good nor evil. It simply is. Karma doesn’t seek justice on…
He sat on her front porch. He wasn’t focused on much of anything, just enjoying the evening air. That was when the rabbit arrived. She hopped right up to him and stopped less than a yard away. She eyed him nonchalantly as she began the arduous task of cleaning her face and ears. She was completely nonplussed by his presence.
The Witch watched from the doorway with a smile. She could sense wave after wave of his luminous and love-filled aura flow out and over the tiny creature. He sat perfectly still, unwilling to break the connection. She stood perfectly…
I told myself that I wasn’t going to write about it. I mean it’s Mother’s Day, and no one wants to hear about the woman whose mother died 49 years ago. Surely I should have gotten over it by now. I mean — I’ve become a mother! And a grandmother!
My cup runneth over.
It really does.
I have two of the most amazing daughters on the face of the planet. I’m sure your daughters are swell too — but mine well and truly kick ass. And my granddaughters? Well — they are completely and totally Magical Creatures. Love flows…
There is so much we hurry through in Life. Ages we want to speed past — goals we want to reach — moments we lose to our focus on The. Next. Thing. We live Life as though it’s a 100-yard dash and the last one over the finish line loses their birthday.
I remember as a child — I couldn’t wait to start school. And then, of course, I couldn’t wait for summer vacation. By July — I was looking forward to school starting again. As I grew older, my milestones grew as well. Soon I was anxious to walk…
I have always been a bird-lover. My aunt had bird feeders when I was growing up. My mother-in-law, also an avid bird-watcher, schooled me in All. Things. Bird. What to feed them, how to feed them, what their names were, what voices belonged to what species. We would spend many hours on the porch of her log cabin in the middle of the Pennsylvania woods sitting side by side bird-watching.
In my own homes, I’ve always had bird feeders. And I’ve been rewarded with some truly beautiful visitors.
However, this season has been the best one ever! I’ve had to…
All three Magical Creatures have started playing spring sports through various programs in their community. The oldest and youngest are playing soccer. The middle one has taken up Lacrosse.
They have begun their practices and are loving being on a team with other kids. The first games happened this weekend. I’m stuck in North Carolina for a few more weeks before I can go and watch them practice and play.
I can hardly wait.
I wasn’t much of a team player back in the day. My entire sports career in school involved being on the archery team. I suppose you…
Why do we go on vacation? So we can come home.
I got home from the beach yesterday. And make no mistake, I love the beach. I spent last week in the company of my daughter, my son-in-law, and The Three Magical Creatures they grew from scratch and it was amazing! I love them all to the moon and back. I adored every second I was blessed to be with them in that place.
And then, I set myself on the road home with relief and longing I didn’t realize had been growing in me.
I gratefully pulled…
