Morning coffee in my favorite chair

About two months ago I started writing nearly every day. I was mostly true to the informal commitment I made and I think my sentence structure has improved with practice.

This is the 61st piece I’m posting here on Medium.

It has been easier than I thought to find a topic to write about. Even going so far as to write about writing. My challenge has been to keep the shadows out, to remain a positive force in the world. It was the deal we made, The Universe and I, it must be about the light.

I wanted to leave parts of myself out here for my grandchildren to discover one day, so I write with that intention always in the back of my mind. I want to be Real, but the stories I tell are the ones I want them to hear. Even when I am gone, I want them to be able to touch bits of my life and know who they were to me.

This exercise is now part of my life, as enjoyable as my morning coffee, and as comforting as a long hot soak at the end of the day. As necessary as my yoga or meditation to the well being of my soul. Writing has added a new facet to my life. Creativity.

It is said it takes twenty one days to make a habit. Now, nearly three times that many days into this practice, it feels that way to me. If I go without writing, I am incomplete, unsettled. Even if I don’t post a piece, just the act of writing a draft or fussing with something in process soothes me.

Thank you to all who have read my missives and follow me into this unchartered territory.

That’s the best part about a journey though, particularly when it’s off the beaten path. You’re just not sure what to expect and the scenery is usually pretty fly.
